My dear Geoffrey,
I have at the present moment in my employment a Chinese named Ahlow Lowing, who acts as cook and, in fact, takes complete charge of the household.
It is his desire to become a naturalised British Subject, and I should be glad if you could tell me how this can be done.
The enclosed copy letter gives some details of his life, and shows that he has spent a considerable amount of time in this country.
He is married to an English woman, has a family of five, two of whom are also employed by us.
I am so satisfied with the work that he is doing that have given him a cottage on my property at Gomersal in which his family now reside. I have every reason to believe that he is a thoroughly trustworthy man, and hope that it will be possible for him to become a British Subject.
In addition to the particulars he gives in his letter, I also am enclosing one or two other papers which show that he has been in business in this country.
Anything you can do to help me in this matter will
be much appreciated.
Yours ever,
(Sgd) Eugene Ramsden.
